A GOTHIC artist and writer is set to give a bewitching midnight talk on the changing faces of Count Dracula.

Glenn James, of St John’s, Worcester, will give his talk at the Air cafe bar and restaurant in Broad Street, Worcester, at the ‘witching hour’ tomorrow – the very time the legendary count ‘arrived’ on these shores.

Mr James, author of the Skaler Stories, a series of vampire novels, will talk about how images of the count have changed over the first 113 years of his life in fiction in his Interview About the Vampire session.

The talk will cover his original description in Bram Stoker’s novel, through the German expressionist period and Nosferatu, from suave aristocrat of the 30s through to the 1970s, and coming up to the most recent interpretation by actor Marc Warren in a 2006 movie, which was filmed in Worcester shire. Mr James, said: “I have wanted to give a talk about Dracula for some time. It will be interesting to reflect on how he has changed in the public eye in the last century.

“In the novel, Dracula sets foot in England at midnight on August 7 in the middle of a horrendous storm which wrecks The Demeter, the ship he’s travelling on. I have met Christopher Lee and discussed Dracula with him, so I can give a vivid personal impression on one of the great actors to play the count, and contrast this with his successors and predecessors.”

Mr James’ drawing, Dracula’s Landfall: Whitby 1885, of the Count arriving on the beach, is being sold by Whitby Dracula Experience in Yorkshire.

Tickets for the talk will be £4, and are available from Air, Worcester Tourist Information and online at gjamesgothicworks.com.
