ARE you looking for a sweet treat? Then head to the Ruby’s Kitchen stall at your next Worcestershire farmers’ market.

Ruby Williams, who specialises in biscotti, biscuits and fudge, is new to farmers’ markets, and makes all her produce at home in her kitchen in Alfrick, near Malvern.

Made from an old family recipe, Ruby’s fudge is “rustic, like proper traditional seaside fudge”.

She says: “All of our fudge is hand-made in small batches. The most popular is just plain, traditional fudge, made with only four ingredients; sugar, butter, water and evaporated milk. But there are loads of different varieties to choose from: rum and raisin, chocolate and walnut, vanilla, Irish cream liqueur and dark chocolate, fresh strawberry and white chocolate, stem ginger and Neapolitan assortment.”

One of Ruby’s specialities is biscotti.

She says: “People love the biscotti you get in coffee shops, so I decided to make them so people can enjoy biscotti with their coffee at home. Biscotti are double baked hard crunchy biscuits, perfect for dunking.

They are baked in a log, then taken out of the oven, sliced and then baked again on both sides.

The Italians also like to dunk them in wine.”

Ruby’s biscotti come in: almond, date and cinnamon, Berrow honey, ginger and pistachio, hazelnut and chocolate chip and chocolate, orange and walnut.

Ruby also has a range of traditional and original biscuits, made using local free range eggs.

“Our biscuit range is always growing – there is something for everybody. They come very neatly packaged with a rafia tie and make lovely gifts.

“I’ve been doing pig roasts, buffets and barbecues since 2003 as well as working as a chef part time.

“But this year I have decided to work for myself full time and combine the outside catering with farmers’ markets. So far everything is going really well, it has really taken off.”

Ruby’s Kitchen can be found at the Malvern and St Peter’s Garden Centre markets.

Today’s market is in Malvern from 9am to 2pm while tomorrow’s market is in Angel Place, Worcester from 9am-3pm.

You can park at the CrownGate car park in Worcester on Sundays for £1 all day. Next weekend’s market is at St Peter’s Garden Centre, Worcester.
