WORCESTER’S Conservative candidate was joined on his rounds by a leading member of the party.
Alan Duncan, shadow minister for prisons and probation, went canvassing with Robin Walker around the St Clement’s ward yesterday morning. Mr Duncan said he was impressed with the response from people and he thought there was little evidence for the leap in Liberal Democrat support, suggested in polls since Nick Clegg’s performance during last week’s leaders’ debate.
He said he was “worried” about a hung Parliament and believed it would result in a government “no one voted for”.
Mr Duncan said his party would seek to reduce reoffending but denied public spending pressures would impinge on that.
He said: “We want to maintain the spending of course but we have got to get the accounts in order otherwise interest rates go up.” Mr Duncan claimed Labour would do just that and said it would result in “utter chaos” but when he was asked if interest rates would definitely not go up if the Conservative party wins power he said: “Nobody can rule out anything at the moment.”
