NAMIBIAN international Gerry Snyman bowled an excellent spell to hand Walsall a winning draw over Kidderminster Victoria in Birmingham League premier division.

Walsall batted first and posted 248-6, but Kidderminster could only manage 188-9 in reply.

KVCC won the toss and asked Walsall to bat on a very green wicket. Ted Baylis had an early success when he trapped Chadha lbw for 16.

However the seam bowlers, Baylis and Jonathan Miles, had little further luck until Walsall reached 100.

KVCC 'keeper Josh Knappett caught Archer for 31, giving Baylis his second wicket.

Another 110 was added before the third wicket fell. Opener Baker found a good partner in Nathan Round and the runs came in only 72 minutes.

Baker was caught by Knappett for 94 off Mark Mansell's bowling and seven runs later Snyman was run out for one.

So, at 217-4 with only four overs remaining, KVCC were back in the game.

However, although Vishal Bhatia bowled both Green and Byrne and the score had only risen to 219, Round and Wicker launched a savage attack on the bowling.

Walsall declared with one over left but scored 29 runs off the last two overs.

Bhatia, who bowled his first four overs for just 24 runs and took two wickets, was hit for 19 runs which included two sixes by Round (76 no) with Wicker also unbeaten on 14.

Baylis took 2-72 from 21 overs, Bhatia claimed 2-43 and Mark Mansell picked up 1-42.

Skipper Jonathan Wright conceded only 41 runs from 11 overs, but leading wicket-taker Miles went unrewarded from his 10-over spell.

Snyman, who impressed in the return fixture at Chester Road, bowled superbly as KVCC lost their first three wickets for only 32 runs.

He sent Wright, Knappett and leading run-scorer Will Gifford back to the pavilion for scores of five, zero and three and his opening nine-over spell cost only 29 runs.

Mansell was batting well and he took the score to 102 with Craig Wood.

Having reached 23, Wood was adjudged caught behind to a ball from Wicker that appeard to come off his pads. Without any addition to the score, Mansell was out lbw to Hawkins for a superb 60.

It was now 102-5 with KVCC in trouble.

Andrew Siwicki and Pete Stevens were scoring runs but the latter was out caught off Snyman's bowling for 12.

The Namibian then bowled Siwicki for a good 22 to claim his fifth wicket.

Nigel Davenport and Baylis livened proceedings until Davenport wes caught by Archer off Wicker for 12.

Baylis was then bowled by Round for 17 and KVCC needed to bat well to ensure they did not lose.

However, they managed to survive, with Bhatia and Miles unbeaten at the end.

Snyman, who has a back injury, bowled superbly conceding 57 runs in 20 overs and taking five wickets.

Walsall are now within 22 points of leaders West Brom and they meet next week.

Kidderminster really need to win a game and they have their next two fixtures at home. They play Knowle & Dorridge on Saturday, before taking on bottom club Shrewsbury. the following week.
