FOR the first time in several years, Malvern Rugby Club are able to field a Colts XV at U19 level.
As director of rugby David Robins said: "In past years our ability to field a colts side was hampered by the fact that so many of our young players went away to university, so although we had successful sides up to U17 level, we were unable to guarantee fixtures at the next age group level.
"However, the nucleus of the U17s from last year are able to continue playing rugby at Malvern, with many of the lads opting to further their studies or careers locally.
"We have a highly respected coaching team in Gareth Richards, Andy Longley and Dave Green, all Malvern 'legends' of recent years. We do, however, need a team manager to take on the organisation of the side for match days. Henry O'Brien, who has done such a sterling job over the years for the first and second XVs, was to have taken over the colts, but increased work commitments have made it impossible.
"Anyone who would like to discuss taking on this role should call me on 07877 309441. I will be delighted to talk them through the job, which is fairly straightforward."
An additional bonus for the Colts is a tie-in with Malvern College, whose rugby players will be available and welcome at Spring Lane after Christmas, when the College reverts to the soccer term.
