BOUYED by their game against a Lashings World XI the previous day, the Colwall XI went into this match against the WCL division three south leaders full of confidence.
WORMELOW v COLWALL
Butler inserted Wormelow and opening bowlers Damien Berry and Jordan Kontarines were outstanding with the new ball. They ripped through the top order, well supported by superb catching from wicket keeper Tom Bevan and Tom Wolfendale at slip.
Wormelow were 22-4 off the first 10 overs. A change of bowling at both ends saw the spin of Mike King and the pace of Darren Cooke take up the challenge. Cooke bowled a tight spell of seven overs for just 22 runs and King bagged 3-32 off 12 overs, including the vital wicket of Wormelow skipper Chris Powell, who fell to an incredible catch by Kontarines in the deep, the unrivalled champagne moment of the match. Tom Wolfendale joined the party with a couple of overs taking the wicket of Gummer.
Berry (3-26) came on to take the last wicket joining Kontarines (3-33) with three wickets a piece. Wormelow all out for 120 off 42 overs.
In reply, Colwall got off to just the start they needed, Tom Wolfendale (35no) and Dave Powell (59) putting on 99 for the first wicket and all but sealing victory. Dave Powell continuing his rich vein of form hitting 14 fours. Nick Panniers with 14 and 5no from Tom Bevan meant an eight-wicket win for Colwall off just 20 overs before the rains came.
Colwall finished on 121-2 and earned 20 points to the home side's nil.
