ANDREW Cullen hit a century when Malvern Cricket Club played at Elmley Castle on Sunday, but it was not enough to secure his team victory.
ELMLEY CASTLE v MALVERN SUNDAY XI
Malvern elected to bat on a glorious batting track, which gave little help to the bowlers.
Malvern's openers Ian Walwyn and Ian Dovey started well and reached their 100 partnership, Dovey completed his half century before being bowled for 57. Walwyn was dismissed soon after for a well made 41, which brought Cullen to the crease.
He attacked the Elmley bowlers and reached his 50 after 30 overs with a flurry of boundaries. With good support from Cuneen, Heritage and a quick-fire 30 from Jon Dovey, Malvern reached a respectable 261 from their 40 overs, Cullen on 107no.
Elmley Castle made an equally impressive start to their innings with none of the bowlers managing to make an impact.
Jon Dovey made the breakthrough for the visitors, bowling Eaton for 45. An impressive 52 from Print was brought to an end when he was bowled by Cullen and some good work in the field by Jon Dovey saw Woodford run out shortly afterwards.
With Malvern closing in on the win, Elmley batsmen Mark Walters took control and dented their hopes. Despite wickets from Walwyn and Cuneen and impressive spells from Aaron and Steve Whittaker, Elmley reached their target with an over to spare, Walters (70no) leading them to victory.
