SECOND-placed Garnons won the toss and asked Marches League division three leaders Colwall thirds to bat on an overcast day at Ghost Meadow.

After a brief stoppage for rain, the openers Purser and Davey raced to a 100 partnership in 17 overs before Purser was caught on the boundary for 65. Davey soon followed for 38.

Bishop and Hylands added 57 before Bishop was bowled for a patient 17. After some lusty blows, Hylands was run out for 55, quickly followed back to pavilion by Evans.

New batsman McClellan soon took charge with some excellent shots and good running between the wickets. McClellan finished on 73no, helping Colwall to their highest league score of 297-8.

Colwall bowlers Kendal and Evans started well, despite a number of wides. Opening bat Eckley looked in solid form however and, after losing Brown (10) at 72, he took the score on to 185 before the second Garnons wicket fell, Gregory run out for 36.

The Colwall spinners bowled untidily and expensively, and runs flowed quickly, with Garnons on target to cause a real upset.

The introduction of Hylands into the bowling attack changed the game. He completed an excellent all round performance with 4-56, including the prize wicket of Eckley for a superb 117.

Garnons could not recover and finished 41 runs short on 256-7, Colwall marching on with 18 points.
