At the parish council meeting on July 25, George Leeds, of Withers Farm, came, in response to questions received from local people, to give information about soft fruit growing and the use of polytunnels on the farm.

His remarks will be in the minutes of the meeting. He will also provide a list of the chemicals which he uses at Withers. Both documents will be available at the Memorial Hall, or from parish councillors, for residents to see.

Anyone who has concerns is invited to telephone Mr Leeds at Withers Farm and speak to him or his farm manager.

On Sunday, August 13, members of the Garden Club are kindly invited to a tea party in the garden of The View, Ochre Hill, between 2pm and 5pm.

Carolyn and David Evans have generously given the club this chance to see their garden now that it is not open to the public, as in previous years.

A party at Wellington Heath's Memorial Hall marked the end of an era, with the retirement of Jenny Mackie, the founder of the regular games night sessions for village youngsters.

The sessions, for children aged from eight to 16, were founded by Jenny ten years ago.

Wellington Heath resident, Richard Lee-Buxton said: "Volunteer parents take turns to supervise games and crafts.

"Although Jenny's own children have long since outgrown the club, she stayed on to make the twice monthly games night a most popular event for village children.

"It has been her patient management that has made games nights what they are today, and the children and parents surprised Jenny with a party, to thank her for all her hard work."

The games nights will continue to be a regular, popular feature of village life.
