RUSSELL Bennett made it 24 hours to remember when he took the wickets of two former Test stars and followed it up with a nine-wicket haul.
The Colwall seconds player had every reason to be full of confidence when he went into his side's match with Wormelow having claimed the wickets of Aravinda da Silva and Chris Lewis just the day before.
The off-spinner was part of the Colwall side that took on a Lashings World XI on Friday and he came away with figures of 2-36.
And then, in the division three south fixture with Wormelow, Bennett took an incredible 9-52 to send his team to a stunning 10-wicket victory and earn him our cricketer of the week award.
He said: "I said on the Friday night after the Lashings game that I would swap those two wickets for five the following day. It was more important we won that game in the league."
After taking 1-39 in his first 10 overs, Bennett needed to persuade his skipper Matt King to bring him back on and he duly rewarded him with figures of 8-12 in 8.4 overs.
Five of his victims were bowled, three were caught and he had one trapped lbw.
"They didn't play me very well," he said. "They went for cross-batted shots instead of straight ones."
Wormelow were eventually skittled out for 157 and Colwall openers Barnaby Bamford (77) and David Taylor (72) knocked off that target with ease.
According to the club's first XI captain Peter Butler, Bennett's haul is a unique feat at this level of cricket.
"As far as I'm concerned it's an outstanding achievement," he said. "I'm not sure how many times that has happened before in league cricket but it has certainly not happened for as long as I have been at the club and I have been here for five or six years.
"He's a very loyal servant of this club."
Bennett, whose first child Rowan was born 11 weeks ago, added: "Saturday was probably my second best achievement this year."
His nine wickets earn him a £30 voucher for the Fearnley Factory shop in Worcester.
