STOURPORT boss Roy Rencher is determined to strengthen his Jekyll and Hyde squad further after mixed emotions following their past few friendlies.
Rencher's delight at last Wednesday's 2-0 home win over Kidderminster Harriers was tempered by the 3-3 draw at Bewdley Town on Tuesday night.
And the Walshes Meadow boss has now identified three targets - a defender, a striker and a winger - to ensure Swifts are equipped for the Southern League Division One Midlands campaign.
The defender is Bromsgrove Rovers' Joe Williams who was their supporters' player and players' player of the season last term.
"He's a big, tall, strong lad and he was probably their best player when we played them at the end of the season," said Rencher, who refused to reveal the names of his other targets.
"Their manager Rod Brown has brought in a new squad and Joe's not getting a look in so hopefully we can prise him away."
Swifts were good value for their 2-0 win over Harriers (see page 86 for report), but they failed to get going at Bewdley.
The Ribbesford Meadows men bossed the first half and led 2-1 at the break with Jamie Hart and Lewis Pountney scoring and Kevin Brookes pulling one back for Swifts.
But although Hart put Bewdley further in front just after the break, Swifts dominated the last 20 minutes and forced a draw with goals from Shaun Findlay and Andy Hodgetts.
"The way we played against Bewdley was a lot like Kidderminster played against us, we just didn't fancy it," he said.
"We found it hard to raise our game against Bewdley in the same way that Kidderminster struggled to lift themselves against us."
Swifts also recorded a 3-2 friendly win over Oldbury United on Sunday with goals from Kevin Brookes, Findlay and Andy Hodgetts.
They host Halesowen Town in a friendly at 3pm on Saturday with reduced admission prices.
Bewdley have a home friendly against Tenbury at 7pm on Monday.
Their under-18s entertain their Worcestershire County counterparts at 7pm tonight, while the reserves are at home to Kidderminster Premier champions Wyre Forest at 2.45pm on Saturday.
Chaddesley Corbett overcame recent disruption to get their pre-season off to a positive start with 22 players turning out for their 2-1 friendly victory at Highley.
New manager Gary Moore took over in rushed circumstances after work commitments forced previous boss Mark Foster to quit without taking charge of a single game.
Moore was delighted by the turnout and a solid performance as a Liam Binner strike and Iain Milroy penalty secured a win for the Ravens.
Chaddesley visit Bilbrook for their second friendly on Saturday before entertaining Shifnal Town at Longmore at 7pm on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Chaddesley are looking for investment for the upcoming campaign with advertising hoardings, programme adverts and player sponsorship up for grabs. To help phone chairman David Yardley on 01562 632956.
