HRH Prince Phillip's visit on Monday July 17, 2006 to No 8 Pershore's Arts Centre was a most memorable day.
When he unveiled a special plague and signed the commemorative book, watched by many people, all of whom had made an input into the No 8 project.
When the ambitious plan and ideas were first suggested about a theatre for Pershore, some thought A Pipe Dream! But not the Pershore's loyal supporters. They decided it would and could happen.
During the years 1991/1993 I was in office as the Mayor of Pershore. During this time I attended many meetings and helped to raise money for the project. I was happy to pledge my full support and this I still continue up to the present time.
To quote a little acorn was sown those years ago and a mighty oak tree is now gradually spreading its branches in many directions catering for the whole community (very young up to the very old) with a wide variety of projects to follow and enjoy.
The wonderful gates kindly made and donated by a local craftsman Steve Cooper are in themselves a tourist attraction.
Further plans are in hand to enhance No 8 (incorporating the second and third floors). Good luck.
Many people travel from afar to attend the various shows etc. I have already purchased my tickets for the Christmas Show in December.
Book early is the password for No 8.
My thanks to everyone who has made this project possible. Special thanks to the management team and to our local press for their coverage over the years.
May the oak tree continue to grow in great maturity.
We all view No 8 with pride when walking up High Street.
BETTY HUGHES MBE, Pershore Town Council, Past President of PODS Friend of No 8.
