HEALTH trusts across the southern part of West Midlands were today getting back to being fully operational after four days of "serious interruption" to computer services.

NHS Connecting for Health confirmed that the computer services giving access to data were now almost fully restored following problems with the power supply at computer service provider CSC Alliance.

The glitch which occurred on Sunday left 80 NHS organisations across England with little or no access to patient administration systems used to log admissions and transfers. Many trusts had to use a manual booking service for patients while the problems were ironed out.

A spokesman from NHS Connecting for Health said: "We have restored a lot of the services and most trusts have got over the problems in terms of using the manual system.

"Some priority services were restored by Monday night and the Patient Administration System was largely restored on Tuesday.

"We expect that all trusts in the West Midlands region will be fully operational by Thursday.

"Trust and PCT staff have been using paper systems while the work has been going on and we regret the inconvenience the incident caused."
