GARETH Brakewell took the Lashings World XI on at their own game as Colwall were beaten by 92 runs.

Brakewell, with just one first team game to his name this season, fired 26 in six balls, including three sixes, on his way to 38 as Colwall reached 210-9 in reply to the tourists' 302-5.

His display of hitting left him just two sixes short of equalling Lashings' record for the fastest 50, achieved earlier in the day by Russell Arnold.

Lashings batted first with openers Rashid Latif and Phil de Frietas. Colwall's own international, Greece's Iordannis Kontarines, bowled an exceptional first spell of five overs for just 19 runs, including the wicket of de Frietas, well taken by Tom Wolfendale at first slip.

Aravinda da Silva and Rashid then built a significant stand. Matt King's medium pace accounted for Rashid, giving Wolfendale the second of four catches in the innings.

Da Silva became more inventive on his way to his century, which included 17 fours and two sixes. His stay was ended by Bennett taking the first of his two wickets. At 227 after 30 overs, Arnold struck his first ball for six over square leg and reached 51 runs in just 17 balls, seven of which going for six.

Colwall made a promising start to their reply when Tom Wolfendale pulled the first ball from Nantie Haywood for four.

David Powell later nicked a ball from Haywood and became the first of four victims for the keeper but Wolfendale and Nick Panniers dug in and survived the opening spell.

Both were beaten by Chris Cairns, who also accounted for Tim Riley in a hostile four-over spell. Captain Peter Butler made an assured 32 before the quick gloves of Rashid proved his and also Matt Fortnum's undoing.

Lee Hankins and Darren Cook then took inspiration from Bakewell, ending with a flurry of boundaries.
