MEMENTOES and memorabilia have been stolen from the Barnt Green home of the late former Football Association and West Bromwich Albion chairman Sir Bert Millichip.

The treasured items were among a haul of silverware and jewellery which was taken from the home of Sir Bert's widow, Lady Barbara Millichip, during a burglary at around midday on Friday, July 21.

Among the items stolen were a 9th Bachelor Brooch Sir Bert received when he was knighted in 1991, a UEFA medallion, gifts from other football associations and two silver goblets bearing the West Bromwich Albion crest.

A large television, a small wooden cabinet and figurines were also taken.

Sir Bert died four years ago, aged 88.

He was an honorary member of European football's governing body, UEFA, as well as life Vice President of the FA.

His son, Peter Millichip, appealed for the return of the items, which were of "great emotional and personal value" to his mother.

"After my father's death his mementoes and memorabilia took on an even greater significance than before," he said.

"These were treasured items, a lot of it irreplaceable and it's a bit like having your family album ripped up and burned."

Police are keen to trace two men who were seen running away from the area at around 12.30pm on the day of the theft.

One is described as white, aged between 18 and 25, around five feet ten inches tall, and was wearing a white shirt.

The other is believed to be a light skinned black male, around five feet eight inches tall, with medium build and shaved hair.

A maroon coloured car was seen parked in the area in the days leading up to the burglary and on the day itself.
