WINYATES Green speed king Mike Luck is riding high in a Rockingham-based series for American Stock Cars after an impressive opening half to the season.
The experienced Redditch driver is second in the Stock Car Speed Association series in only his third season driving his 5.7litre 'lucky seven' Pontiac.
Luck, a former Oceanair Clubman Champion, has posted four sixth-place finishes and two fifth places in the opening six races of the 12-race season.
With two races held at each of the meetings Team Revolution Racing driver Luck is trailing series leader Oli Playle by 135 points and is looking to cut into that lead when he returns to the Rockingham Oval, in Northamptonshire - which hosts the entire series - on Sunday, August 13.
Luck (pictured) started his racing career in Special Saloons and GT racing in 1978 before moving onto Clubman championships and lifting the Oceanair crown in 1984.
He went on to drive in various Kit Car and Clubman series before two seasons in the Clubman 1600 Series from 2001-03. He was runner-up in the rookie section of his debut SCSA season two years ago.
Despite his impressive performances so far, Luck has at times been indebted to the work of his Team Revolution support crew.
"On one occasion, a propshaft coupling sheared just as we left the pit lane to start the race and the crew pushed the car back to the pit garage and repaired the car just in time for me to join the race," said Luck.
