JUST a brief response to the letter from Labour councillor, Geoff Hulett, which was compeletely inaccurate.
I did not preside over the purchase of the German refuse vehicles that are now causing problems with all too frequent breakdowns. The decision had already been made by the full Council (with Labour party support) and the Working Group that I chaired ended up sorting out many of the inherent problems until eventually the new refuse and recycling service was performing well.
Unfortunately, the vehicles continue to break down and the result is missed collections which are only recorded if householders actually complain (via the Customer Service Centre 01527 881288).
The district council is deluding itself and misleading the public if it fails to count all bins missed on the planned collection day.
