THE recent Race for Life in Bromsgrove was a wonderful event, with lots of local support and lots of money raised for the fight against cancer.
What a pity though that the major route into Bromsgrove was severly hindered by roadworks, delaying many contestants from the start. It was also such a pity that the district council retained its car parking fees for contestants throughout the day, even issuing penalty tickets to some unfortunate runners unable to return in time! What a worthy gesture it would be, for the council to donate the day's car-parking fees to this cause.
A valuable lesson I hope has been learnt by the council is that roadworks should not commence on main routes to events that are projected to attract large numbers of people !
However, congratulations to all contestants, there were some very brave and inspirational women and some truly wonderful support from local residents.
