SIR - While serving with the Army in Italy during the Second World War I often thought that I would like to see the country in peacetime.

Alas, the years went by and I thought that I had left it too late. Then in 2004, Age Concern arranged a holiday in Sorrento, near Naples and I took advantage of this opportunity. It was most enjoyable.

Then again on July 7 this year I was with an Age Concern party which went to Riva del Garda in the north of Italy, amid the Dolomites, situated on the shores of Lake Garda. It was a 10-day holiday. The scenery was breath-taking. Everything was wonderful. The Italian people were very friendly as well.

I should like to thank and congratulate all at Age Concern for arranging this latest holiday, for attending to administration, humping heavy cases around, seeing us safely through the British and Italian customs and generally for providing us with such a marvellous holiday. We were picked up at the door and returned to our doors. No worries at all. Had I been on my own when going through customs, I should probably have got lost for ever!
