A MUM and daughter from Webheath gave fellow athletes a run for their money in a recent Race for Life event.

Julie Venn and her 12 year old daughter Kirsty, from Blackstitch Lane, were two of the fun run's top performers.

Mrs Venn, a member of the team entered by Tesco Extra in Oakenshaw, was the first employee to complete the 5k run on July 23, and 12th overall.

Meanwhile, Kirsty, a pupil at Ridgeway Middle School, was fourth across the finish line at the event, held at Bromsgrove's Sanders Park.

She was also the first child to complete the race, which was organised to raise cash for Cancer Research UK.

"We both really enjoyed taking part in the event and raising money for a good cause," said Mrs Venn.

"Neither of us are regular runners but we went out on a few practice runs before the event."

Tesco entered a team of more than 30 staff including 15 members from the petrol station where Mrs Venn is based and hopes to raise at least £3,000.

Tesco's petrol station manager, Lyn Stone, who has the job of organising the team said: "Race for Life is a lot of fun and raises money for a very good cause.

"We have a sponsorship target per employee of £100 so hopefully we will raise £3,000 to help our family, friends and the people of Redditch in their fight against cancer."
