WI - The speaker at the July 19 meeting was Joy Gammon. After living in the Middle East and teaching in a private school, she explained about the customs of the Emirate States, particularly Dubai and Qatar.
Members were shown the clothes they wore every day and for ceremonials, some encrusted with jewelled embroidery.
They were told of Qatar's free hospitals and schools and the fact that most of the vast fortune made by their country owning an enormous quantity of gas was put back into the country for the benefit of the people.
The next meeting in the village hall will be on September 20 when Sue Elliott will be demonstrating finishing touches and soft furnishings.
Members, visitors and prospective new members will receive a warm welcome.
