A PARTY of 39 Evergreen scouts, led by Alan Hodgetts, left Bromsgrove station on the first part of their journey to Helsingoer in Denmark for their summer camp. It was the pack's fifth visit to the country. Trips to a shipyard and Copenhagen were planned.

FORMER Bromsgrove High School pupil Judith Crew was crowned Queen at Droitwich carnival. She was the elder daughter of Insp Crew, of the Droitwich police division. She was crowned by the Spa mayor Gideon Davies with a tiara of gold filigree set with pearls. The parade was headed by Bromsgrove Town Band and was watched by a crowd of 3,000.
BROMSGROVE and district was hit by one of the worst thunderstorms in living memory on Friday. A number of cattle and a horse was killed by lightning and many homes were struck. Flooding, especially near Catshill war memorial, was the worst for 30 years and the Spadesbourne broke its banks in Market Street. Marble-sized hailstones were reported from many areas. The red fruit on a cherry tree in a garden in Victoria Road was instantly turned black after being hit by a lightning bolt.
SIXTY pupils from Colmers Farm Mixed Secondary School, in Rubery, experienced an exciting night while camping on the Isle of Wight when a gale blew away their tents. They were forced to spend the night in sheds, but their equipment, worth £8,0 was ruined. No one was injured.
RUMOURS that Bromsgrove Rovers stalwart and key player Joe Wainwright might not re-sign prompted the club to issue a statement saying historically Joe never had put pen to paper until just before the first game of a new season and this year was no different. Previously club officials had been forced to visit him at his home several times to encourage him to re-sign.
