CRAIG Evans' mum Christina Dyson kept a promise to her late son by having her head shaved for his namesake appeal.
The brave mum is now sporting a close crop after having her pretty locks reduced to a fuzz at the Craig Evans family fun day held at Arrow Valley Countryside Centre on Saturday, July 22.
"It is something I discussed doing with Craig when he was alive and he thought it was a really funny idea," said the hairdresser.
"So, I decided to continue in his memory - he would have loved it."
So far the stunt has raised £300, although Mrs Dyson said many people were still offering donations after seeing her whip off her wig.
"People are quite shocked and some thought I was mad to do it, but it will grown back."
She said she was delighted the appeal was continuing in Craig's name and that it was helping local people with similar disabilities.
Another Redditch resident has this week benefited from the appeal launched by the Advertiser.
Gary Mayrick, 47, who suffers from multiple sclerosis, has received £670 from the fund towards a special exercise bike attachment for his wheelchair to help build muscle.
Mr Mayrick, of Towbury Close, Oakenshaw, appealed in the Advertiser for help in raising the £15,000 needed for pioneering stem cell treatment in the Netherlands.
Anyone wishing to donate to the appeal or sponsor Mrs Dyson can call appeal director Jean Leathwaite on 401782 or email her on jleathwaite@jleathwaite.plus.com
Alternatively, residents can pay directly into HSBC in Church Green.
