THE problem of nuisance youths gathering on a Matchborough school playing field could become a recurring issue, a councillor has warned.
Juliet Brunner said although police had stepped up surveillance after residents complained of youths drinking and causing trouble on Arrow Vale High School's field last weekend, there had been a similar incident since.
She said that on Saturday, July 22 a huge group of youths met on the field with barbecues and drinks. But the partying took a nasty turn when they smashed bottles in nearby Kenchester Close.
Residents also had planters taken out of their front gardens.
Mrs Brunner said a large amount of rubbish was left on the rugby field and there was a similar incident on Thursday.
"The police are making their presence felt and explaining to residents that they are out and about,'' she added.
Some residents want a Section 30 disperal order put in place and many plan to attend the area's next PACT meeting, on August 16 at 7pm at Matchborough First School.
A police spokesman said a previous Section 30 order in Matchborough, which had now expired, did not cover the school and there did not appear to be any moves to re-apply for another order.
