THE Descendants of Windrush (DoW) are making final preparations for the largest multicultural family event to be held in Redditch.
A Caribbean fun day will be held on Saturday from noon-7pm to commemorate the anniversary of Jamaica gaining independence.
It will be held at Terry's Memorial Field, next to Redditch Football Club and is supported by the council.
Activities include food stalls, steel bands, dancers, quad bikes, a talent competition, face painting, a dominoes tournament and a raffle.
Top of the bill is Vivian Jones, a reggae singer from London.
And for the first time, Redditch will have its first Caribbean King and Queen and Prince and Princess who will be representing their community.
DoW spokesman Veronica Allen said: "This is the fifth year running and all the events have been very successful and well attended by all sections of the community from every race or background.
"People do look forward to this annual event because of the Caribbean atmosphere, music and food.
"We're an inclusive group and our aim is to promote a positive cultural identity and to educate people from other backgrounds."
DoW are sill looking for more stallholders who would like to have a display or promote their business and for more volunteers.
Redditch has also recently developed full twinning links with St Elizabeth in Jamaica.
