LOU Vincent looks set to play a bigger part than expected in Worcestershire's end-of-season run-in after it emerged that Phil Jaques may well have to jet off to Australia for a third time.
Australia will play India and the West Indies in a limited overs tri-series competition in Singapore and Malaysia in September and it seems likely Jaques, who is centrally contracted, will be included in the squad.
Although no dates have yet been released, the left-handed opener could miss the Liverpool Victoria County Championship division two games with Leicestershire and Northamptonshire.
He will also be absent for the Pro40 clashes with Hamp-shire and Surrey.
If Worcestershire were to qualify for the Pro40 divisional play-offs on September 24, Jaques is also likely to be missing.
Fortunately for the County, New Zealander Vincent will be around to fit in and, although he has proved to be a very popular addition to the dressing room, he has hardly had the same impact on the field as Jaques.
Director of cricket Steve Rhodes said: "We'll have to wait and see if Phil gets selected in the Australia squad, but at this stage we are in the luxurious position that we have Lou Vincent in the country and available if Phil was to be called-up.
"Lou is a ready-made replacement if Phil has to go and he has fitted into the dressing room while he has been here."
