DESPITE Worcestershire sl-umping to 70-7, a battling 132-run eighth wicket partnership between Roger Sillence and Ray Price set up an unlikely nine-run victory for the hosts over West Indies 'A'.

The duo revived the County to a respectable 213 all out and great bowling from Gareth Batty, Price and skipper Vikram Solanki bundled out the visitors for 195.

Devon Smith hit 62 and Dwayne Smith added 44, but it proved in vain as the West Indians came up against a resolute Worcestershire side.

A hostile opening burst from former Test bowlers Daren Powell and Tino Best reduced Worcestershire to 10-2.

Ben Smith was given out caught behind off Powell, yet he looked unimpressed with the decision. Will Gifford, making his one-day debut, was clearly beaten for pace as his attempted pull at Powell looped up to Darren Sammy at mid-off and Vikram Solanki managed 21 before he edged Sammy to Morton.

The collapse continued, but Sillence played an excellent career-best innings of 94, while Ray Price was also impressive on his way to 47.

At the start of the West Indies' reply, Moore scored a direct hit to remove Lendl Simmons before Nadeem Mal-ik trapped Runaco Morton in front to make it 44-2.

However, Devon Smith and Sylvester Joseph batted fluently to take their side to 92-3 before the latter was caught for 21. Then Smith was bowled by Gareth Batty (3-16), who also trapped Ryan Hinds for 30.

Next over, it became 184-6 when Batty produced a moment of brilliance to remove Smith. The off-spinner saved a certain six by plucking Smith's powerful drive one-handed out of the air at long-off.

With the West Indies needing 12 to win off the final over, Malik had Best well caught by Ben Smith to seal a dramatic win.
