A LODGE Park school narrowly escaped serious damage after a fire was caught early at the weekend.
Firefighters were called to Woodfield Middle School in Studley Road on Sunday night at about 9.45pm after a rubbish bin was set alight.
Sub officer Jim Ball said the bin had been quite full, and was close to the school so there could potentially have been a lot of damage.
"Luckily, the caretaker spotted it and called us so we got there before it took hold. But it melted quite a lot of plastic guttering," he added.
