NINETEEN-year-old Faisal Sha-hid has been awarded a scholarship with Worcestershire for the 2006 season.
Shahid, from Smethwick, was a graduate of Worcestershire's Cricket Academy in 2004 and plays for Halesowen in the Birmingham League. He has also played regularly for the Second XI during the last two years.
New Road director of cricket, Steve Rhodes, said: "Faisal has a fantastic opportunity to impress next season. He knows that with consistent performances he could push his name forward for a full contract.
"He adds some depth to our squad being an all-rounder and both coach Damian D'Oliveira and myself look forward to helping him develop his game during this winter and next summer."
