LANCASHIRE claimed the 22 points they needed to move into second place of the Frizzell County Championship Division Two by completing a convincing innings win over Worcestershire at Blackpool.
After taking 16 wickets on Saturday's third day, seven in the first innings and nine in the second, Lancashire claimed the solitary wicket they required in the second over yesterday to claim victory by an innings and 73 runs.
With rivals Durham and Yorkshire having drawn, and Essex losing at home to Somerset after an over-generous declaration, Lancashire moved six points behind Durham at the top.
After resuming on 112 for nine, the visitors added just one further run before Kabir Ali was caught by James Anderson in the second.
Bowler Glen Chapple said: "The lads have played really well all game."
