LANCASHIRE continued to pile on the runs today as the Frizzell Championship Division Two match with Worcestershire entered its second day at Blackpool.
Resuming at 388-4, the Red Rose county took their score onto 423 when they lost Marcus North for 60. He was caught by Kabir Ali off the bowling of paceman Matt Mason.
Just one more run was added before Nadeem Malik had Mal Loye caught by Vikram Solanki for a fine 187. Loye had hit 20 fours and two sixes in his 318-ball innings and had put on 104 with North for the fifth wicket.
Yesterday, Loye and Stuart Law (143) laid a solid foundation for Lancashire.
The newly-laid Blackpool pitch, coupled with the lack-lustre Worcestershire attack, failed to cause any real problems for the middle-order pair on the way to a record third wicket stand of 249 at Stanley Park.
The previous best at the seaside venue was in 1929, when Jack Iddon and Ernest Tyldesley put on 237, also ag-ainst Worcester.
Loye was the first to get going with a fine array of boundaries all around the ground, but Aussie Law nearly beat him to his ton thanks to some brilliant shot placement.
When former Northamptonshire man Loye reached 63, he became the first Lancashire player to pass 1,000 first-class runs for the season
Soon after, Law reached his ton -- the 32nd of his career.
Firstly pace bowler Malik had Law caught at short cover by captain Vikram Solanki for 143, before left-arm spinner Price yorked Australian all-rounder Andrew Symonds for one.
But still there was enough time for Loye to pass 150 -- an innings containing 17 fours and one six -- and Marcus North to add a classy 43.
Price was the mainstay of the Worcestershire attack, bowling a marathon 37 overs for his 2-114.Earlier, Mark Chilton had won the toss but lost his wicket with the opening ball of match when he was caught by Stephen Moore off Matt Mason.
Left-handed Iain Sutcliffe (12) was the next to go with the score on 63 -- caught behind by Steven Davies off the spin of Ray Price.
Later in the day, when things started looking desperate for the visitors, Nadeem Malik and Ray Price took two important wickets.
