KIDDERMINSTER councillors have vowed to take up the case of residents suffering from maggot infested dustbins in the wake of soaring temperatures across the district.
Comberton and Offmore councillor, Mike Oborski and Habberley and Blakebrook councillor, Mike Kelly said they had received dozens of calls from angry residents demanding their waste be taken away.
The Shuttle/Times & News reported last week on the plight of Kidderminster resident, Kim Hastings, who was dismayed to find her dustbin over-run with maggots.
Since then, dozens of householders have contacted councillors in a desperate bid to rid their own dustbins of maggot infestations. Many were demanding the return of the weekly service which was scrapped in 2003.
Instead, bins are now emptied every two weeks, with kerbside recycling collections every week.
Mr Kelly described the policy as "wrong", adding: "The administration must accept full responsibility as they were warned many times this would happen."
He said he would look to put forward the issue at a forthcoming Wyre Forest District Council meeting.
Mr Oborski said: "It is impossible for the council to change the system overnight but they must take a look at the situation again in the light of this awful experience."
Councillor Marcus Hart, responsible for commercial services, said it was a policy inherited from the Health Concern party but they were currently unable to re-introduce weekly collections due to cost implications.
