Evesham's Abbey Park has proved its worth once again after scooping the prestigious Green Flag Award for the second year running.
The Green Flag Award, which is the national standard of excellence for parks and green spaces in England and Wales, is given on an annual basis and each year winners are asked to re-apply to be judged to see if they can renew their Green Flag status.
Wychavon District Council's parks officer Lynn Stevens is delighted at the news: "A great amount of work goes into making sure our parks are wonderful places for people to play and relax. I am delighted that we have been given this award for Evesham's Abbey Park for the second year running and I hope residents and visitors enjoy it especially this summer."
Last year Abbey Park was one of fewer than 400 parks in England and Wales to be awarded the coveted Green Flag status.
The Green Flag scheme is managed by the Civic Trust and winning sites are all judged on certain criteria. They should be welcoming, safe and well maintained with the strong involvement of the local community.
Following a number of investments and projects to rejuvenate the site, Wychavon District Council entered Abbey Park for the award.
Over the past few years a new ornamental herbaceous garden has been created, the model boat pool totally refurbished, enhanced entrances and signs, new shrub planting and a revamped quayside.
The new flag will be raised on Friday, August 4 at the Quayside.
