FOLLOWING your article in the Shuttle/Times & News (July 20, 2006) regarding the infestation of maggots in dustbins we also experienced the same problem last week. This is despite already taking all of the precautions stated by Andrew Dickens, namely:
l Disposing of waste as soon as possible and wrapping it before placing in the dustbin; using bin liners to put the wrapped waste into; have the dustbin cleaned and disinfected every four weeks.
Also some of our neighbours experienced the same problem.
The problem of maggot infestations during hot weather was raised when the fortnightly collection was introduced. This problem of infestations rests solely at the door of Wyre Forest District Council who should immediately revert to a weekly collection of waste and provide a fortnightly collection of recycled items.
Wyre Forest residents are paying around £1,300 per year (Band D) in council tax and receiving a service for waste collection that is comparable to 19th century conditions.
