VOLUNTEERS for the Worcester branch of the Samaritans, including Jill, above, came out from behind their phones to meet people in the city centre and raise funds for their service.
They set up a bric-a-brac and book stall in the Angel Place market to mark National Samaritans Day, called 24:7. This is the first day of its kind and was held on July 24. Deputy director of the Worcester branch, Michael Shrubb, said: "It was mainly to raise awareness and let people know we are there. We also raised £83 which will go towards running the Worcester branch."
The stall was staffed by Samaritans volunteers who had a good response from shoppers. Their helpline number is 08457 90 90 90. Anyone interested in becoming a volunteer should ring 01905 21121.
