THE fight against cancer was given a huge boost when 2,500 women donned their running shoes for Cancer Research UK's 'Race For Life'.
Women aged seven to 70 took part in the event on Sunday, running and walking the five kilometre course, which started and finished in Bromsgrove's Sanders Park.
The first runners to finish took just 21 minutes, with the last taking nearly an hour and a half.
The course took in Willow Road and Perryfields Road, before finishing with a final lap of the park.
Although the final total is not yet known, £40,000 has so far been raised from online sponsorship on the 'Race for Life' website.
Race organiser Claire Hartley hailed the event as "the best ever in Bromsgrove."
"The day was fantastic and we had great support," she said.
"Our total so far is £40,000 just from online contributions.
"We are hoping to raise £150,000 so we have had a good start.
"The race was fully booked up four months ago so we are absolutely delighted with the response.
"It was also great that the weather held off as it rained last year!"
Entrants who raised more than £125 and submit their sponsorship money within four weeks will receive a 'Race for Life' watch.
