HERE we go again. The renegade Tories who claim to now be Independents, whilst on the national scene still are faithful to their 'Thatcherite roots'.

On the local scene they act like some protector of the Bromsgrovian faith.

Last week, although I have rights of free speech under the Human Rights Act, I was silenced for daring to speak out against our hierarchy.

This week Cllr Peter McDonald, a man who has worked tirelessly to improve the lot for the whole of Bromsgrove, is being attacked for doing the job he was elected to do, namely leading the Labour group in opposition.

Many of the so called Independents, who attack those of us who are long standing members of the Labour Party in Bromsgrove, were once devoted Tory Thatcherites, issuing the type of economic measures which have reduced Bromsgrove to the level it is today.

A town that was once prosperous, a thriving market town with jobs ranging from engineering to commerce of many kinds, to a town which has needed help from national government to avoid its council drifting into bankruptcy.

Many of us have long memories and are living with the results of a town under Tory influence.

If the Labour group can help the present administration sort this unholy mess out that was left behind after the break-up of the Tory Party, then surely the Labour councillors should be commended not constantly harassed.

Our Labour councillors are doing a grand job. I just wish we had more of them and less of the negative moaners, who really are not helping anyone.

I am sure the long suffering electorate of this district will be taking note and at the next local election the 'bigs' may just become the 'smalls'.

Now that's a thought to brighten up our day, isn't it?
