TWO boatmen from Stoke Prior were charged with cruelly treating a dog. John Wright snr and John Wright jnr appeared at Worcester County Court petty sessions charged with ill treating the dog belonging to Mr and Mrs Walter Whitehouse. Mrs Whitehouse said Mr Wright's dog and hers were fighting. She saw Wright jnr throw an iron windlass at her dog. Then Wright senior struck it with a boat tiller. One leg was broken and another so badly injured that the dog had to be put down. The defendants chose to be tried at the quarter sessions. Bail was allowed at a cost of £10 each.
MEMBERS of the Bromsgrove Oddfellows' Juvenile Society held their annual outing. Around 120 children and 35 adults visited Habberley Valley. A halt was made in Kidderminster where biscuits and ginger beer were served and, in reaching the valley, the group took part in games. A capital tea was supplied by Mr Brazier at the White Cottage. More games were played before they set off on their return journey.
BROMSGROVE Cricket Club were at the top of their form when, after dismissing Erdington for 45 runs, they scored 206 in an hour and 55 minutes. Robinson produced a splendid bowling display of six wickets for 17, while Perkins claimed three for 21. With the bat, Nicholls scored at a merry rate, hitting 37, including seven boundaries.
AT the police court, John Robert Wood, of no fixed address, was charged with being drunk in the High Street, Bromsgrove. Police Constable Griffin proved the case and the defendant was fined 2s 6d, and 6s costs.
