UP to 200 people could attend the memorial service in Belgium for a First World War soldier from Worcester who was awarded the Victoria Cross.
A plaque to remember Private Fred Dancox, of 4th Bn Worcestershire Regiment, will be unveiled near the Belgium village of Langemarck which is close to the area where in 1917 he single-handedly captured an enemy bunker and took about 40 Germans prisoner.
Stephen Moorhouse is chairman of the Worcestershire and Herefordshire branch of the Western Front Association (WFA), which has raised the funds for the memorial.
He said: "There will probably be upwards of 200 people attending the unveiling. We are issuing that number of invites to the reception afterwards.
"There are 24 members of the WFA branch attending. This figure does not include members of the family, city council or attending media, which may include TV. There will be approximately 20 to 30 servicemen from the Worcester & Sherwood Foresters Regiment alone. We are looking at a major event."
The unveiling is due to take place on Saturday, September 9. Anyone who would like to make a donation to help fund the un-keep of the memorial can contact Mr Moorhouse on 01905 779088 or email him at shm45@hotmail.co.uk.
