WORCESTER Nomads 1st XI travelled to Lye in the WCL division two and were asked to bat first on an unpredictable looking pitch.

Simon Harris (36) and Malcolm Jones (45) continued their fine form at the top of the order, getting Nomads off to a solid start. Jones was run out with the score on 80.

Scoring for the rest of the innings proved difficult with Nomads closing on 220-9.

Nomads narrowly missed out on a win reducing Lye to 179-8 with excellent bowling performances from all of the bowlers, the pick of them being Geoff Taylor with 3-46.

/ In the WCL division seven, Nomads third X1 batted first and openers David Pearson and Chris Bland made a steady start.

They put on 46 for the first wicket before both fell, the former for 33 and the latter for 34. This brought in 17-year-old Matt Humphreys to the crease and in company with Jerry Matts they put on 180 before Matts retired with back strain for 70. Humphreys, who hit eight 6s made 118 and Nomads came in after their 45 overs having made 281-3.

In reply, Avoncroft scored steadily with N Meak making 53 and L Rodway 32 adding 76 for the first wicket before Rodway was out. Murray and Meak put on a further 97 for the second wicket but always at a rate less than what was required. The innings closed at 226-4 and 13-year-old seamer Alex Williams took 2-29.
