COLWALL thirds maintained their 100 per cent winning record away to Moccas in their Marches League division three encounter thanks to an excellent century by Andy Bishop.
COLWALL III v MOCCAS
Colwall were asked to bat on a wicket with variable bounce with openers Bishop and Davey determined to see off the new ball in the hope the wicket got easier.
Colwall had posted only 55 runs off the first 20 overs having lost Odge Davey (16) and Ben Wheeler (4). Andy Bishop showed real grit and occasionally chancing his arm began to increase the run-rate assisted by cameos from Tom McClennan (11) and Luke McQueen (19).
Bishop (112) was joined by Matt Berry (37no) and then by Tobi Dudfield (10no) who proceeded to take the bowling apart, scoring 71 off the last eight overs leaving the visitors with a very respectable total of 227 for the loss of five wickets.
In their reply, Moccas started out very aggressively scoring a five an over in the first 20 overs albeit supported by too many extras from the visitors.
However, skipper Keith Holland was determined to give his youthful bowling attack the experience they need and all picked up wickets, with Tom McClennan picking up the valuable wicket of Moccas captain Prothero (38), who was dispatching the bad balls to the boundary.
The introduction off Matt Berry with his leg-breaks (2-20 off six overs) and Holland (2-39 from 11 overs) slowed the down the run-rate as well as picking-up four good wickets leaving the home side at the end of their 45 overs on 184-9.
Colwall entertain Presteigne tomorrow (Saturday) in their quest for the championship.
