THREE schoolchildren have shown their artistic flair by creating logos to help promote the bid for a Bewdley youth cafe.
The competition was organised by the project's executive committee and first place was awarded to St Anne's Middle School pupil, Sara Davies, 12, who received a family pass to West Midland Safari Park.
Her classmates, Charlotte Smith and Jennifer Groome, both 12, shared the second prize of a selection of music downloads from iTunes.
The aim of the competition was to get more young people involved in the plans to create a youth cafe, which will be modelled on one in Tenbury Wells and will act as a base for organising activities as well as providing a computer suite and health and welfare services.
Committee members are currently working on funding applications, including one for a Lottery grant, so they can purchase premises and the winning designs will be used to help promote the project on two 8ft banners at events during the summer.
Vice-chairman of the committee, Jerry Parr, said: "When we begin to set up the youth cafe, we hope to involve as many supporters in the area as possible.
"The youth cafe will be a great opportunity for business and professional people to contribute to a real community project."
He added the scheme would help young people to develop useful skills when they leave school and provide a place for them to meet new friends.
Volunteer co-ordinator, Mandy Nicol, said there had been a good response from people who had filled out questionnaires about what they wanted from a youth cafe.
She added committee members, who include Bewdley beat manager, PC Nigel Barter and Worcestershire county councillor Nigel Knowles, were also working towards forming a young people's committee, which would run the cafe on a day-to-day basis.
Anyone who wants to get involved in the project can contact the executive committee by e-mail at exec@bewdleyyouthcafe.org.uk or by post to Bewdley Youth Cafe c/o Bewdley Town Council, 6 Load Street, Bewdley, DY12 2AH.
