A FORMER soldier from Kidderminster had a royal appointment as he attended Buckingham Palace for a military landmark.
Ray Norris joined in celebrations for the 350th anniversary of the Grenadier Guards, in which he served nearly 30 years ago.
He was forced to leave the forces, however, following a road accident that left him with ongoing support needs, due to the brain injury he suffered.
Mr Norris, 50, had fond memories of his time in the Grenadier Guards and was happy to meet up with other former and serving members at the party at the palace, which was attended by the Queen.
As he is unable to live independently, because of his injury, he lives at The Grove, a home run by Tracscare for people who need support.
Mr Norris was accompanied to the event by three Tracscare workers. One of them, Lauren O'Shea, said: "It was a pleasure to take Ray to the celebrations. He met so many people and was able to share many memories.
"Although we didn't actually speak to the Queen, she did smile at us as she walked past. Ray can feel very proud that he was part of the celebrations."
