CRICKET: Crusader County League - ALMOST 600 runs were scored on a superb wicket at Walshes Meadow when Stourport had the better of a draw in their Division Three North match with Alveley.

The hosts amassed a huge total of 324-5 in the allotted 50 overs, Neil Bailey top scoring with 66 and other good contributions coming from Dave Cook (59) and Rich Savery (56).

Phil Williams also smashed a quickfire 41 not out from just 21 balls and Tom Gloster a rapid 34 not out to seal a fine batting display.

In reply Alveley held out for a losing draw on 256-8.

l Cookley suffered another setback in Division Three North after a three-wicket defeat at home to Feckenham.

After losing the toss, the home side were surprised to be inserted to bat on another scorching day at Lea Lane. But disciplined bowling from the visitors reduced Cookley to 15 -3 and the wickets continued to tumble.

Only skipper Adam Nicholls (77) really got stuck into the visiting attack, and Cookley eventually found their way to 162-9 from their 50 overs.

Despite the small target, the home side bowled and fielded tightly and were rewarded by removing most of the Feckenham top order cheaply, mainly thanks to the bowling of Grant Snowball. There were also two wickets for Brian Davies, but with some confident late order batting, Feckenham reached their target, Snowball finishing with figures of 5-61.

SECOND TEAMS

Cookley 2nds recorded a fine six-wicket victory at Feckenham in Di vision Three North.

The home side batted first and made 218-9 from their 50 overs, with part-time off-spinner Alan Pestridge the chief tormentor to the home side with 4-31.

In reply, skipper Paul Cartwright was again in fine form, hitting 71 for the Lea Lane side. Gavin Brown hit an unbeaten 50 to see the visitors comfortably to their target.

l Stourport lost the toss at Alveley in the same division but profited when they were asked to bat and came away with a winning draw.

Jim Cook led the way with an unbeaten 125 and there was good support from Clive Judd and Kev Haycock to hep post 248 -6 in 45 overs.

Once Powell had been removed by David Pittaway with the score on 96-6 it looked like curtains for the Alveley reply but the hosts held out for the remaining 22 overs to frustrate the visitors.

Mark Guest had the best figures with 4-58 as the home side's innings closed on 127-8.
