A PROJECT which teaches children how to prevent injuries in the home and community or becoming the victim of crime has been hailed a success.

Youngsters from middle schools across the area took part in the Wyre Forest and District Young Citizen Challenge 2006 at Trimpley Reservoir, near Bewdley.

Pupils, supported by teenagers from King Charles I High School, were confronted with a variety of everyday hazards set up by local and national organisations.

The selected teams from Wyre Forest schools were then given nine different danger scenarios and a quiz paper to complete.

The aim was to help prevent children becoming the victims of crime and sustaining injuries.

The activities also helped promote the importance of interpersonal skills, including problem solving and leadership.

Comberton Middle School was one of the many schools to take part in the two-week challenge. The winner of the competition is yet to be announced.

Teacher, Lisa Colbourne, said: "This was a fantastic opportunity for the children and taught them a great deal about how to be a good citizen and how to act appropriately in certain situations. It was as well run as ever."
