A KIDDERMINSTER supermarket is looking to introduce changes to its car park to ease traffic flow and prevent jams.

Sainsbury's has submitted a planning application to Wyre Forest District Council to make modifications to the layout of the existing car park - including two new exits and a new entrance lane - to make life easier for its customers.

The Crossley Park store stands next to one of the busiest road junctions in Worcestershire but now bosses are keen to do something to prevent the build-up of traffic that can happen as shoppers leave the store.

Changes being proposed include the creation of another lane leading into the car park and a further lane, to leave the car park to give extra room if queues build up.

Plans have also been submitted for a new emergency exit which could be used at the manager's discretion in the event of a build-up on to Carpet Trades Way.

Duty manager, Stuart Benyon, confirmed store bosses were looking at creating two extra lanes leaving the car park and one entering.

He added: "The road is known as one of the busiest in Worcestershire and this can sometimes be a problem for our customers leaving our store.

"It's particularly a problem at peak season, including the end of October, November and into December, when people are doing their shopping for Christmas and new year.

"Also, January can be quite busy, with people popping along to the retail park to take advantage of the sales. As a store, we want to do all we can to ease congestion and to make life a little easier for customers."
