THE returning David White helped steer Pershore to a six-wicket County League win at home to Brockhampton last Saturday.

While early wickets fell at the opposite end in pursuit of 167 for victory, White played an anchor role that was crucial especially when Phil Oxley arrived at the crease.

The latter was the aggressor in a stand of 97 that left victory almost a formality and Liam Ridings helped White, who ended on 61 not out, guide the hosts home.

Pershore's new opening attack of Lachlan McKenzie and Reuben Rivers-Smith restricted the visiting openers to just 40 runs in the opening ten overs after Stephen Cooper had won the toss.

Martin Johnson's introduction then put a furtehr break on the scoring and, after 25 overs, the scoreboard read 97-2.

The chase for quick runs then saw Brockhampton lose their last seven wickets for just 49 runs with Rivers-Smith claiming 4-53 and Johnson 4-46.

The club's second team lost a high scoring affair on the road after John Brookes and Chris Ridings had shared a century opening stand.

The latter went on to score his maiden century in senior cricket as wickets tumbled regularly around him and the 16-year-old's unbeaten 131 was almost half Pershore's score of 269.

His efforts proved in vain as the bowlers produced a poor display and a strong home batting line-up cruised to victory for the loss of only two wickets.
