CHRIS O'Hagan was crowned club champion at Broadway Golf Club last weekend after two fluctuating rounds of competition in the stifling conditions.

It was the first time since the club was formed in 1895 that the annual event was played over two days with 18 holes being contested on Saturday morning and a second 18 played the following afternoon.

The leading 48 players made the cut after the opening exchanges and it was O'Hagan who led the way after a superb three-under 69.

Ben Storey and Ed Kennedy were just one shot adrift with former champion Shaun Thornhill a further shot behind.

Oliver Coombes and Morgan Ken-nedy both made their moves on Sunday as birdies and bogeys all round produced changes at the top of the leader board.

When Storey's second at the 16th found a bunker, the bogey left him four behind O'Hagan whose par four left him just one clear of Kennedy who had rolled in a 20-footer for birdie.

However, that was matched on the next by O'Hagan whose superb birdie three left him two ahead on the final tee.

Playing partners Storey and Ed Kennedy found themselves perfectly placed off the tee after the leader had found the trees.

O'Hagan was on the green in three but Kennedy was a little over four feet away in two and then found himself with that putt to take the contest to a play-off after O'Hagan had left his putt short.

However, Kennedy's downhill putt slipped past leaving O'Hagan to tap in for a bogey five that sealed the prestigious crown after a level par 72.

Peter Sumner won the best net prize after the seven-handicapper had carded rounds of 77 and 75 to finish one stroke clear of O'Hagan, who was playing off one.
