A GRANT of £30,000 over three years has been given to Number 8 by Worcestershire County Council.

It is one of only 18 arts organisations across the county to benefit from the council's latest round of awards, as part of its commitment to the arts.

Cllr Philip Gretton, cabinet member for adult and community services, said: "We aim to create a strong working relationship with county arts venues and to provide resources for others to take part in and contribute to the arts in Wychavon.

"Number 8 is a relatively new arts venue. It's great to see so many ideas and developments for communities to enjoy creative activities."

Jane Daniels, chairman of Number 8, said the money would support general running costs and to fund a new paid position for an operations manager at the largely voluntarily-run organisation.

"We'll continue to programme quality performances and maximise community involvement," she said. "The council's support has been fantastic and we're looking forward to furthering the relationship with the arts service."

Other events to benefit from recent arts awards include Pershore Jazz Festival and the Eastern Festival in Evesham.
