A WRIBBENHALL couple whose eyes first met across a Kidderminster pub 48 years ago have returned to catch their first glimpse of the refurbished venue which brought them together.
Roy and Irene Woster, of Meadow Rise, first met in Ye Olde Seven Stars in Coventry Street in 1958.
Now married, they took a trip down memory lane when they visited the pub last Thursday to see the changes that have taken place over the years and most recently under the management of new landlord, Robin Copeland.
Mrs Woster, 63, who last visited the pub around 20 years ago, said: "If I'd have been blindfolded and asked which pub we were in after all these years I wouldn't have recognised it.
"The front part of the pub is still the same but the area at the back has completely changed.
"It's been extended and I don't ever recall seeing a beer garden here when we used to come many years ago."
Mr Copeland took over the running of what is thought to be the town's oldest pub last month and has carried out an £80,000 revamp.
Mr Woster, 71, previously met the current landlord, Mr Copeland when he ran the Black Boy Hotel in Bewdley.
He said: "I've seen changes to pubs in my time and some that I have not always liked.
"To me, the most important thing when refurbishing a pub is to ensure that it does not lose its character.
"I think that's what Robin has managed to achieve," he added.
